Penguin on the North West Coast of Tasmania, near  Ulverstone and Burnie is an RV friendly town, offering free overnight stays for fully self-contained vehicles just a few kilometres from the centre of Penguin at Preservation Bay. Penguin offers a range of modern facilities including shops, cafes, service stations, hotels, pharmacies, bakeries and other services. The popular Penguin Market is held every Sunday. This overnight RV friendly stay at Penguin in close to the bigger town of Burnie. Penguin is a great base to explore the central and north-west coast of Tasmania, including the towns of Devonport, Ulverstone, Burnie, Somerset, Wynyard and Smithton. As at the 2011 Australian Census Latrobe had an urban population of fewer than 4000 people. This free overnight stop is only quite small but is basically flat and one of the more attractive of a number of RV friendly towns in Tasmania as it has uninterrupted sea views and beach walks. There is no cost to stay here, and you can stay for a maximum of 2 nights only. Your vehicle must be fully self-contained. You may stay for 2 nights. There is no tent based camping, or camping in cars allowed at this location under any circumstances. You must have a fully self-contained motorhome, campervan or caravan to stay at the Penguin RV Friendly park, which is located just a few kilometres out of the centre of the pretty small seaside town of Penguin, Tasmania at Preservation Bay. This means only vehicles that carry its own water supply, contains internal washing and toilet facilities, and has an onboard wastewater storage tank can stay at the location.

A vehicle is deemed to satisfy the requirement to be a fully self-contained vehicle if it is accredited by the Campervan and Motorhome Club of Australia under its Self Contained Vehicles Policy of 2016, and displays a current SCV panel issued by the CMCA.

This is not a particularly large area, but is flat and does offer a couple of shady spots if you are lucky. This free RV stay in Penguin is a 5-minutes drive to Penguin where you can get food, counter meals, coffee, use a post office and visit other shops including a bakery and art gallery.
