Latrobe on the North West Coast of Tasmania, near Devonport and the Spirit of Tasmania, is an RV friendly town, offering free overnight stays for fully self-contained vehicles right in the centre of the town of Latrobe. Latrobe offers a range of modern facilities including supermarkets, cafes, service stations, hotels, pharmacies, bakeries and other services including medical. This overnight RV friendly stay at Latrobe in close to the Mersey Community Hospital. Latrobe is a great base to explore the central and north-west coast of Tasmania, including the towns of Port Sorell, Devonport, Ulverstone, Penguin, Burnie, Wynyard and Smithton. As at the 2011 Australian Census Latrobe had an urban population of fewer than 2,900 people. This overnight stop is a large flat, open area and is not the most attractive on a number of RV friendly towns in Tasmania. It does, however, have good toilets, a dump point and offers an alternative to the nearby Latrobe Caravan Park and is a good close option if you are looking for low-cost accommodation close to the Spirit of Tasmania. A permit must be obtained to park your vehicle at the Latrobe RV Overnight stay – the cost is $10 per night. You may stay for 2 nights in any consecutive 14 day period. The issues permit must be clearly displayed on the vehicle, and the area is patrolled by local council officials. There is no tent based camping or camping in cars allowed at this location under any circumstances.
Fully self contained motorhomes, caravans and campervans can stay for $10 per night for a maximum of 48-hours in any 7 day period at the RV camping area Latrobe, Tasmania close to the Spirit of Tasmania ferry terminal.
You must have a fully self-contained motorhome, campervan or caravan to stay at the Latrobe RV Friendly park, which is located right in the centre of the town of Latrobe at 1 Gilbert St. This means only vehicles that carry its own water supply, contains internal washing and toilet facilities, and has an onboard wastewater storage tank can stay at the location, which is patrolled by local council staff.
A vehicle is deemed to satisfy the requirement to be a fully self-contained vehicle if it is accredited by the Campervan and Motorhome Club of Australia under its Self Contained Vehicles Policy of 2016, and displays a current SCV panel issued by the CMCA.
This is a reasonably large area, and is flat but doesn't offer much shade. This free RV stay in Latrobe is a 1-minute walk to local facilities including a Woolworths Supermarket, hotels where you can get counter meals, cafes and other shops including a bakery and art gallery.
